Interview
Following my interview, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on the whole process of the interview. This will be the preparation and performance, as well as my engagement with the pre-interview task.
Pre-Interview Task
The task of modelling a go-kart I found was both exciting and challenging, this allowed me to showcase a range of skills. I made sure to approach this task efficiently by starting with silhouettes, thumbnails, and concept sketches before moving into perspective drawings and refining the final model. I also made sure to complete the extra tasks of UV mapping and texturing to ensure I had a polished final result.
Receiving feedback that my documentation and final model were well-considered was really encouraging. I was especially happy that my passion for Formula 1 and cars came through in my work, as I wanted my enthusiasm to be clear not just in the technical view but also in the design stage of the task.
Interview Process
During my interview I planned out my approach which showcased my, knowledge, and skills. Going into my interview I felt well prepared and during I was able to provide detailed responses to the questions asked. Before my interview I researched the company which was very helpful during my interview process so that I could show my knowledge on the company. This was reflected in my feedback which highlighted that my answers were well considered, which I found reassuring.
One learning experience I took from the face to face experience was the preparation of how I phrase things when being asked open and closed questions. Understanding critique is a negotiable factor but also to ensure you have confidence when speaking about your potential areas of improvements is a valuable skill to have. Another thing I have learned from this interview is that when asked about your areas of weakness you should always mention how you are planning to work on this to make them into a strength.
Final Thoughts
Overall, I found this experience incredibly valuable. It allowed me to notice my strengths while also giving me a clear area to improve how I handle certain points in an interview setting. I’m proud of the work I put into the pre-interview task and grateful for the feedback I received. This process has further motivated me to keep improving, both in my technical skills and in how I present my ideas.
